Why can't he see? He's awakened in the familiarity of his bed. His body thrashes in panic as his mind fills with dread. His eyes feel open yet no images appear. He has been banished to a realm of darkness. The sense of an odious presence is overwhelming. While choking on the fear of his forlorn state, he trepidatiously exclaims "Why can't I see?" What cruel fate has he been destined to? An existence that knows only of pain and misery. Surely his captor seeks to torture him slowly. Perhaps they'll commence with a pealing of his vibrant flesh. While devastated by is inevitable fate he claws frantically at his own face. His now bloody nails cling to a foreign fabric as his sense of vision is flooded with light. He gazes in dismay at the sleep mask he forgot he applied the night before.
